ENDLICH geht es los. Das Reisejahr beginnt. Die erste Station soll zunächst die wundervolle Insel Andros in der Ägeis sein. Vor zwei Jahren war ich schon mal hier, für einen Tag und habe mich in diese Insel, die so gar nicht touristisch erschlossen ist, verliebt. Keine Hotelburgen, klares Wasser, paradiesische Strände, Berge, kleine Fischerdörfer. Und das alles nicht so Schickimicki.

FINALLY it’s starting. The year of travel begins. The first stop will be the wonderful island of Andros in the Aegean. Two years ago I was here for a day and fell in love with this island, which is not at all developed for tourism. No hotel castles, clear water, paradisiacal beaches, mountains, small fishing villages. And all that not so posh.

Heidrun begleitete mich auf meiner ersten Etappe für fast eine Woche. Unser erstes Erlebnis war der neu eröffnete BER – Berliner Flughafen. Alles extrem unübersichtlich, lange Schlangen, weite Wege, um zum Gate zu kommen. Keine Laufbänder, die funktionieren. Wir hatten dennoch Glück. Der Flug hatte etwas Verspätung, weil einige Menschen es nicht fertig brachten, eine PLF (Passenger Location Form) auszufüllen.

Heidrun accompanied me on my first leg for almost a week. Our first experience was the newly opened BER – Berlin Airport. Everything extremely confusing, long queues, long ways to get to the gate. No moving walkways that work. Nevertheless, we were lucky. The flight was a bit delayed because some people couldn’t manage to fill out a PLF (Passenger Location Form).

Nach 1 1/2 Jahren war das mein erster Flug, mit Maske – das neue Modeassescoire. Wir starteten in Berlin bei schlechtem Wetter, Regen. Aussichten für Griechenland: Bewölkt, regnerisch. Wir kommen dort nach 2 1/2 h Flug bei Sonnenschein an. Es zogen aber Gewitterwolken auf. Mit Bus ging es um 14.10 Uhr nach Rafina, zum Fährhafen. Dort hatten wir eine Stunde Zeit, uns etwas zu essen zu besorgen. Am besten Take away, aber das ist gar nicht so einfach in Griechenland. Wir fanden ein kleines Restaurant, was uns für 10 Euro Kalamaris und Weißwein einpackte, was wir dann auf der Fähre verspeisten.

After 1 1/2 years, this was my first flight with a mask – the new fashion accessory. We took off from Berlin in bad weather, rain. Outlook for Greece: cloudy, rainy. We arrive there after a 2 1/2 hour flight in sunshine. But thunderclouds came up. By bus we went to Rafina, to the ferry port, at 2.10 pm. There we had an hour to get something to eat. Preferably take away, but that’s not so easy in Greece. We found a small restaurant that packed us calamari and white wine for 10 euros, which we then ate on the ferry.

Auf der Superferry waren kaum Passagiere. Oktober ist eben keine Reisezeit, der Sommer ist eigentlich vorbei. Die Strände waren leer. Aber das Klima angenehm, man hätte auch gut und gern auf Deck sitzen können, war nur etwas unbequem. Nur harte Stühle. So konnten wir uns in der Lounge auf dem Sofa lang machen.

There were hardly any passengers on the Superferry. October is not a time for travelling, summer is actually over. The beaches were empty. But the climate was pleasant, you could have easily sat on deck, it was just a bit uncomfortable. Only hard chairs. So we could stretch out on the sofa in the lounge.

Die Fahrt dauerte ca 2 Stunden. Wir genossen das Licht und den Sonnenuntergang und fotografierten wie bekloppt jede Wolke…

The drive took about 2 hours. We enjoyed the light and the sunset and photographed like crazy every cloud…

Um 18.30 erreichten wir Gavrio. Wir suchten die Ostria Appartements und staunten über das fantastische Licht. Jede Ecke wurde fotografiert. Überall Katzen. Halt nicht so edel, dennoch natürlich und einfach nur schön. Die erste Nacht verbrachten wir in einem 2Sterne Hotel, laut Airbnb mit Pool und Breakfast. Aber wegen Corona keins von beiden im Angebot. Nicht so schlimm: Morgen geht’s ins richtige Quartier. Unser Zimmer war spartanisch ausgestattet. Aber wir hatten einen Balkon. Wir suchten uns einen Supermarkt, um Wein und bissel was zu essen zu besorgen. Der Wein hatte einen Korken, wir aber keinen Korkenzieher, so zog Heidrun – bereits im Nachthemd nochmal los. Allerdings konnte ihr niemand helfen, außer an der Tankstelle, wo ihr der Korken mit einem Schraubenzieher in die Flasche gedrückt wurde.

At 18.30 we reached Gavrio. We looked for the Ostria flats and were amazed at the fantastic light. Every corner was photographed. Cats everywhere. Not so noble, but still natural and simply beautiful. The first night we spent in a 2-star hotel, according to Airbnb with pool and breakfast. But because of Corona, neither was on offer. Not so bad: tomorrow we’ll go to the right place. Our room was sparsely furnished. But we had a balcony. We looked for a supermarket to get some wine and food. The wine had a cork, but we had no corkscrew, so Heidrun – already in her nightgown – went out again. However, no one could help her, except at the petrol station, where the cork was pushed into the bottle with a screwdriver.

Wir entschieden uns für ein Auto ab morgen. Das macht uns den Aufenthalt auf der Insel etwas leichter.

We decided to take a car from tomorrow. This will make our stay on the island a little easier.
