Wir kommen beide so langsam an im Urlaub. Ausschlafen !!! Obwohl ich bereits 6 Uhr kurz wach wurde und bemerke, dass es hier im westlichsten Teil Europas um 6 Uhr noch stockdunkel ist. Also noch kein Sonnenaufgang in Sicht. Schnell zurück ins Bett und weiterschlafen. Sonnenaufgang verschlafen. Die Sonnenaufgänge scheinen hier eher weniger spektakulär als die Sonnenuntergänge. Über der Küste hängt am Morgen meist eine graue Nebelwolke von der Gischt. Wir hören das Meer rauschen.

We are both slowly arriving on vacation. Sleeping in !!! Although I woke up briefly at 6 a.m. and realized that it was still pitch dark at 6 a.m. here in the westernmost part of Europe. So no sunrise in sight yet. Quickly back to bed and back to sleep. Oversleeping the sunrise. The sunrises here seem less spectacular than the sunsets. In the morning, a gray cloud of mist usually hangs over the coast from the sea spray. We can hear the sound of the sea.

Wir frühstücken dennoch auf dem Balkon, auch wenn es recht frisch und von Sonne keine Spur zu sehen ist. Ich glaube, ich habe die falschen Sachen eingepackt, kontrolliere nochmal die Aussichten für Ferienwohnung 2 und 3: 30 Grad und darüber. OK, muss mir keinen Pullover kaufen.

We still have breakfast on the balcony, even though it’s quite chilly and there’s no sign of the sun. I think I’ve packed the wrong clothes and check the weather forecast for apartments 2 and 3 again: 30 degrees and above. OK, I don’t need to buy a sweater.

Meine Vorbereitung auf diesen Urlaub hielt sich auch in Grenzen. So richtig recherchiert, was man sich hier ansehen, was man erleben kann, habe ich nicht. Ließ es mal wieder auf uns zukommen. Peniche, ein Fischerdorf auf einer Halbinsel scheint jedoch sehr interessant, mit Festung, die bis 1974 als Gefängnis politischer Gefangener diente, in der es wohl auch Hinrichtungen gab.

My preparation for this vacation was also limited. I didn’t really do any research on what to see and experience here. Once again, I let it come to us. Peniche, a fishing village on a peninsula, seemed very interesting, however, with a fortress that served as a prison for political prisoners until 1974, where executions were probably also carried out.

Doch wir beginnen unsere Tour mit einem Rundkurs um die ganze Halbinsel, klettern über die Felsen der Insel Papoa und schießen Fotos am Abgrund. Unten brodelt die Waschmaschine. Wir setzen die Runde fort an der felsigen Küste entlang bis zum Leuchtturm. Wann und wie sind diese Felsformationen entstanden? Was für Kräfte hier wohl gewirkt haben?

But we start our tour with a circuit around the entire peninsula, climb over the rocks of Papoa Island and take photos on the precipice. Down below, the washing machine is boiling. We continue our tour along the rocky coast to the lighthouse. When and how were these rock formations created? What forces must have been at work here?

An der Festung ist ein Rummel aufgebaut, der noch schläft. Offensichtlich ist dieser dann abends in Betrieb. Zum Glück, denn auf Trubel und Krach habe ich so gar keinen Bock. Wir erkundigen uns nach Bootstouren zu den Berlenga Inseln, die wir auch noch in Angriff nehmen wollen. In einem kleinen Restaurant am Hafen genießen wir nach einmal Tischwechsel den Ausblick auf diesen von der Terrasse aus und probieren frischen Fisch aus dem Atlantik.

A fairground is set up at the fortress, which is still asleep. Obviously it is in operation in the evening. Luckily, because I’m not really in the mood for hustle and bustle. We enquire about boat trips to the Berlenga Islands, which we also want to do. After changing tables once, we enjoy the view from the terrace of a small restaurant by the harbor and try some fresh fish from the Atlantic.

Die Sonne kommt endlich raus. Was machen wir den Rest des Tages? Strand!!! Ich lasse mich von den Wellen jagen, und traue mich ins kalte Wasser. Nicht lange. Aber ich war drin.

The sun finally comes out. What do we do for the rest of the day? Beach!!! I let myself be chased by the waves and venture into the cold water. Not for long. But I was in it.

Ich bin weit weg vom Stress und lasse mich treiben. Nicht nur angekommen, sondern mittendrin im Urlaubsmodus.

I am far away from the stress and let myself drift. Not just arrived, but right in the middle of vacation mode.
